Read this book The best single relationship book I have ever read. I was so impressed by it that I have used it in several classes. Hendrix considers that we fall in love with people who our unconscious minds tell us can help us complete our unfinished business from childhood. He explains why opposites attract -- and why those differences then begin to drive us crazy. By the middle of the book, you are ready to despair--but then he devotes the second half to the solution, the "conscious marriage." He gets very specific, with a couples quiz that can however be taken by one partner alone; suggestions; recommendations; and--exercises. Anyone who puts in even half the requested effort will end up, at the very least, knowing a good deal more about his or her partner. The book is not perfect. Deliberately aimed at a popular audience, the writing is sometimes too simplified. There are links and connections that can be inferred, but that are not spelled out in the book. And HH's optimistic methods are not likely to work for the deeply disturbed or traumatized individual, simply because the degree of change called for is too great.I give this book to every couple I know, straight or gay, who are getting married.Must read for those in a relationship I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to write one about this book. It was loaned to me by my therapist. My wife and I have been struggling in our marriage for years and no matter what I do (or she does), we always seem to fall back on the same old patterns of behavior that don't seem to work. Falling out of love has been a very painful experience indeed. The situations described in the book were very, very recognizable to me and at times I felt it described it described me and my own feelings exactly. Read this book, even if it is just for the realization that you are not alone in your struggles to make something out of your marriage.Nobody goes into marriage thinking they are going get divorced some day, but the statistics are grim. Roughly half of all marriages end up in divorce and of the remaining marriages probably 9 out of 10 couples sooner or later end up leading parallel lives where they try to find happiness and fulfillment outside of the relationship with their spouse. That means roughly only 1 in 20 couples end up building a lasting and fulfilling relationship that will last a lifetime. Are we expecting too much of marriage? Few of us would undertake an endeavor knowing there is only a 5% of succeeding, yet we do it anyway. The book goes on to illustrate that we chose our partners for very specific reasons that few of us are even aware of. Out of thousands of potential partners we are attracted to some people that subconsciously meet very specific character and personality traits. In a sense, we all marry into our problems, the very things that attract us to our partners, become the very same issues that drive a wedge between us.The book is very practical too in that offers specific exercises and guidelines for couples on how to interact with each other. But don't expect it to be easygoing by any means. I realize now that marriage takes a lot of hard work and commitment every day to make and stay successful. You have to make it a top priority in your life and take nothing for granted. Expect to do a lot of soul searching, be prepared to relive some gut wrenching and painful experiences from the past, be wiling to learn and undo the conditioned automated responses that you have always used, be prepared to be brutally honest to yourself and your spouse. I fear it might be too late for my own marriage but once you get through this catharsis, I do believe you might actually come out with a happier and more fulfilling relationship on the other end.Regardless, I implore you to read this book. It might help you save your marriage or relationship before it's too late, but even if it does not, it might make you a better person, it will certainly help you build more meaningful relationships with other people and give you a better chance at building lasting and more meaningful future relationships. Good luck to all of you that need this book.Does Not Work For NPD Partners (They Are "Perfect" Already) This is an incredibly insightful book that is filled with great exercises that work to bring you and your partner together. The only caveat I can see here is for those who are working with a partner with Narcissistic Personality Disorder...it most likely will not work for those couples because the NPD will always have too many needs for the Non-NPD to meet, despite their efforts and the Non-NPD will never get ANY of their needs met, because the NPD views them as an inanimate appliance, not as a living, breathing human or, Heaven forbid, an equal. If your partner is an emotionally healthy, logical, sane person, like most of the population, though, this book will be a tremendous resource for you. It will even help you see what went wrong in your past relationships and increase your own self-awareness. Excellent!

Don't Walk Away Pdf

Title: Don't Walk Away Pdf A Second Chance Military Romance
I never should have walked away.

Being in the military just seemed worth the heartache, but I was wrong.

And being back and seeing her has me uncharacteristically needy.

There’s no way in hell she’s going to give me a second chance.

I wouldn’t.

And yet, fate has a way of opening the right doors at the right time.

I left my heart behind all those years ago, but I can’t make that same mistake twice.

I’m hers forever. For good.

If she’ll have me.

Great Romance Read I really enjoyed this second chance short story romance. The characters are interesting, well-developed, and have chemistry. The story is interesting, well-written, with a happily ever after. If you like military romances, you will enjoy this book. In addition to receiving an arc, I purchased the book for my collection.Sweet Second Chance Romance! 3 1/2 Stars This sweet second chance romance was a short and easy read. My heart went out for Ashton who was unceremoniously dumped by the love of her life and ghosted for nine years before seeing him again. While I liked the way this author minimized the drama and did not go into a lot of detail of what happened to this couple during the nine years, I was a bit disappointed in Rhett. I liked that he had matured and made a life for himself in the military. Respected, responsible, and mature. Everything pointed towards him being a great person. While I loved the story and the wonderful way it ended, I hated how cold and detached he seemed to be when it came to Ashton. Instead of falling to his knees asking for forgiveness for the way he dumped her, he acts as though he didn’t do anything wrong. I get that he had his reasons, but even when he finally tells her the reason he left and stayed away, it just didn’t sit right with me. He moved on, and didn’t give her a second thought to how she was doing for nine years. Not even looking her up or asking about her? I mean, who does that? So, not a real fan of this so called hero. Kudos to the author for pulling it together for a climactic HEA that Ashton deserved!I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.Well written with engaging characters. Chloe Morgan’s Don’t Walk Away was a delicious read that took place in a small town in the state of Washington and that I finished in a few hours. Ashton and Rhett were the second chance lovers and even though they hadn’t seen each other in nine years, their chemistry clicked on immediately and just got hotter every time they saw each other. The townspeople and families of both sides couldn’t be fooled and knew they would get back together. But, would they? Ashton had unresolved issues that had to be addressed first. The author really did a great job with the flow of this story. She kept it tight and focused, which with a shorter story is so important.Definitely recommending this book for your reading pleasure and enjoyment.I am unassumingly leaving a review of this advance review book for your consideration.

Everything You Need to Know about the iPhone Complete, well-written, and very understandable! And with a sense of humor! All the answers are here, I think I haven't found a question that this book hasn't handled. Not always directly, and sometimes the results of a not-so-great index, but this is an excellent reference. I've also found it useful to read various chapters to learn how to use particularly obscure features. Book weighs a ton, but I don't know if you can retain printing quality with lighter paper.Invaluable information! I'm only on page 41 (out of 680!) but I've easily more than doubled my knowledge of my iPhone (XS). It may take me a long while to finish but it's the most useful tech reference I've ever used and I'm trying to absorb the information a little slowly to avoid overload. At each step so far I have iPhone in hand and try things out. Of course I'm amazed at the complexity of the iPhone and iOS 12 and now I have Pogue's book to see me through. Highly recommended.

“Stephenson has not stepped, he has vaulted onto the literary stage with this novel.”—Los Angeles Reader“[Snow Crash is] a cross between Neuromancer and Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland. This is no mere hyperbole.”—The San Francisco Bay Guardian   “Fast-forward free-style mall mythology for the twenty-first century.”—William Gibson   “Brilliantly realized . . . Stephenson turns out to be an engaging guide to an onrushing tomorrow.”—The New York Times Book Review Only once in a great while does a writer come along who defies comparison--a writer so original he redefines the way we look at the world. Neal Stephenson is such a writer and Snow Crash is such a novel, weaving virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility to bring us the gigathriller of the information age. In reality, Hiro Protagonist delivers pizza for Uncle Enzo's CosaNostra Pizza Inc., but in the Metaverse he's a warrior prince. Plunging headlong into the enigma of a new computer virus that's striking down hackers everywhere, he races along the neon-lit streets on a search-and-destroy mission for the shadowy virtual villain threatening to bring about Infocalypse. “[Snow Crash is] a cross between Neuromancer and Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland. This is no mere hyperbole.”The San Francisco Bay Guardian

“Fast-forward free-style mall mythology for the twenty-first century.”—William Gibson

“Brilliantly realized . . . Stephenson turns out to be an engaging guide to an onrushing tomorrow.”—The New York Times Book Review

Interesting story, but a very dense read Overall, I really enjoyed this book. After having finished Ready Player One somewhat recently before reading this, I marveled at the similarities considering the books were written something like 25 years apart. And the fact that this one was written in the early 90s is not lost on me, as there were many futuristic components that are eerily similar to what we have in our world today. The biggest downfall of me was that this book was so incredibly dense. On the one hand, Stephenson created a fictional world based on the real world where I live (Los Angeles) and described it with immense detail. (And I can totally see the city/country heading this way, btw.) But on the other hand, there was so much description to slog through that I found myself re-reading some things over and over trying to absorb it and not always quite getting it. Definitely a gripping story overall, but was left many times confused as to what was going on.Plus In the end, there were many questions left unanswered, but it is what it is. Would still recommend it for anyone who likes Futuristic Sci Fi.A Classic that needs to be made into a series. I just read this again for the second time after having read it first about a year ago.First off....someone needs to make this into a series.Please.It's a great story and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the cyberpunk type science fiction. The only complaint about this work will be that the author gets into a bit of a detailed description that some people might find slow, but he does it in little chunks, so it's doable. The action-adventure stuff is great and fast moving. The "coming-of-age" aspect is good, the dual hero aspect is really well done. The villains are terrible. The tech is great to read about.Highly recommend this.“When you are wrestling for possession of a sword, the man with the handle always wins.” The Bad:Tonal shifts. “Snow Crash” starts with some legendary levels of satire, but the consistency for said tone drops off after 50 or 60 pages. The satire remains, but the more the novel progresses, the more an afterthought that satire seems. In the middle of the book, the tone becomes one of ‘discovery/revelation’ that persists until the end… at which point the tone graduates to ‘let’s get this over.’ The shifts are never quite abrupt, but are somewhat stark.Changing voice. “Snow Crash” never quite feels like it’s written by three different people, but the beginning, middle and end all feel radically different from one another. Some difference is to be expected as a story nearly 500 pages in the telling is unraveled… but there’s a difference between progression of events having a subtle impact on how the story is told and the feeling that the author is changing how they’re drafting the story in their own mind.Wandering plot. Why did Hiro need to go to Oregon to learn that thing about Raven? The Raft was cool, but did it need to occupy so much time or focus for the reader to grasp its significance or otherwise appreciate the information Stephenson was offering? There are a couple of other plot points that beg the question ‘why that’ or ‘why present it this way,’ but the goal is to remain as spoiler-free as possible, so those points will remain unmentioned. There is a fair amount of wandering/meandering in the storytelling that’s hit or miss; for every enjoyable moment of superfluous world building or character development, there is a head-scratching moment to offset it.The Good:The Deliverator (the first ~50 pages, really). Y.T. The ideas behind Babel, protolanguage and religion, in general. The Takeaway:Entertaining if a bit dated (as far as many of the technical predictions or conventions are concerned). “Snow Crash” was no doubt a hell of a read when it was released: immensely entertaining; rife with observations and commentary regarding the era in which it was written (much of which is still shockingly relevant); offering statements about how we got to where we are; great observations about people, their hopes, dreams and motivations.Recommended for: fans of cyberpunk; those interested in a topical examination of neurolinguistics; people looking for a wild, trippy ride that will trigger some fierce 90s nostalgia. Anyone that enjoyed “Neuromancer” or “Lexicon” may want to give “Snow Crash” a shot.“It was, of course, nothing more than sexism, the especially virulent type espoused by male techies who sincerely believe that they are too smart to be sexists.”“Software development, like professional sports, has a way of making thirty-year old men feel decrepit.”“To condense fact from the vapor of nuance.”“The Deliverator lets out an involuntary roar and puts the hammer down. His emotions tell him to go back and kill that manager, get his swords out of the trunk, dive in through the little sliding window like a ninja, track him down through the moiling chaos of the microwaved franchise and confront him in a climactic thick-crust apocalypse. But he thinks the same thing when someone cuts him off on the freeway, and he’s never done it-yet.”“They do a lot of talking about Jesus, but like many self-described Christian churches, it has nothing to do with Christianity except that they use his name. It’s a postrational religion.”
